Rapunzel’s Tower

Skill Level:

Easy

Materials:

• Double knitting/light worsted yarn (No 3)
• Approx 50 grams of green
• Approx 25 grams of beige
• Small amounts of double knitting/light worsted yarn in pastel yellow
• Small amounts of double knitting/light worsted yarn in brown
• Hooks 4.00 mm
• Yarn Needle

Abbreviations:

SC – single crochet
HDC – half double crochet
DC – double crochet
FPDC – front post double crochet
BPDC – back post double crochet

Gauge:

Tension/Gauge is not necessary for this project to be perfect – crocheting the same tension throughout will ensure squares are approx the same size.

Finished Size:

Approx 14 cm x 14 cm

 

Instructions:

 

The Granny Square: (make two)
Make a magic circle with green yarn and 4,00 mm hook

Rnd 1: CH 3 (counts as 1 DC), work 2 DC into ring; *CH 2; work 3 DC into ring.
Repeat from * two more times; CH 2 SL ST into top of 3 CH
Rnd 2-5: CH3 (counts as 1 DC), work 1 DC into each ST all around and work 2 DC, 2 CH, 2 DC into each corner 2 CH.
Fasten off and weave in ends.

The Tower:
CH 16 beige yarn and 4,00 mm hook

Row 1: Work 1 SC into 2^nd CH from hook work1 SC into each CH until end (15 SC); TURN
Row 2: CH 3 (counts as 1 DC); work 1 DC into each SC until end (15 C); TURN
Row 3: CH 3 (counts as 1 DC) work FPDC over next 4 STS; work BPDC over next 5 STS
work FPDC over next 4 STS; work 1 DC into last ST; TURN
Row 4-11: CH 3 (counts as 1 DC) work FPDC over next 4 STS; work BPDC over next 5 STS
work FPDC over next 4 STS; work 1 DC into top of turning 3 CH; TURN
Row 12: CH 3 (counts as 1 DC) work FPDC over next 4 STS; CH 5; work FPDC over next 4 STS; work 1 DC into top of turning 3 CH; TURN
Row 13: CH 3 (counts as 1 DC) work FPDC over next 4 STS; work 1 HDC into next 5 CH; work FPDC over next 4 STS; work 1 DC into top of turning 3 CH; TURN
Row 14: CH 3 (counts as 1 DC) work FPDC over next 4 STS; work 1 HDC into next 5 HDC; work FPDC over next 4 STS; work 1 DC into top of turning 3 CH.
Fasten off and weave in ends.

The Roof:
CH 16 brown yarn and 4,00 mm hook

Row 1: Work 1 SC into 2^nd CH from hook, work 1 SC into each CH until end (15SC); TURN
Row 2: CH 1; SC2tog; work 1 SC into next 11 SC; SC2tog (13 SC) TURN
Row 3: CH 1; SC2tog; work 1 SC into next 9 SC; SC2tog (11 SC) TURN
Row 4: CH 1; SC2tog; work 1 SC into next 7 SC; SC2tog (9 SC) TURN
Row 5: CH 1; SC2tog; work 1 SC into next 5 SC; SC2tog (7 SC) TURN
Row 6: CH 1; SC2tog; work 1 SC into next 3 SC; SC2tog (5 SC) TURN
Row 7: SKIP next 2 STS; work 6 DC into next ST; SKIP next ST; SL ST into last ST;
SL ST all around roof; fasten off and leave a tail for sewing

Rapunzel’s Hair:
Note: make 3
CH 31 with yellow yarn and 4, 00 mm hook

Work 1 SC into 2^nd CH from hook; work 1 SC into each CH until end.
Fasten off.

Braid the 3 tails together; weave a piece of yellow yarn thru the top of the braid and
attach to the ‘window’ of the tower – see photos

Trim the end tails neatly.

ASSEMBLING THE SQUARE:

Sew the two granny squares together to make one big rectangle square.

Sew roof onto the top of the tower;

Attach a small ribbon the tail of the braid.
