Happy Thursday! Welcome to this week’s Let’s Learn a New Crochet Stitch – Kitchen Crochet Edition event. This week I am going to show you the Brickwork Stitch pattern and give you the instructions to turn it into a 6″ x 6″ dishcloth, with a photo tutorial. Happy Crocheting!

Brickwork Crochet Dishcloth Pattern and Tutorial

ch(s) –
chain(s)
FL – front loop
hdc – half double crochet
sc – single crochet
sk – skip
st(s) – stitch(es)

Multiple:

6+3

Gauge:

4.3 sts & 2.7 rows = 1″

Finished Size:

6″ x 6″

Notes:

  • This pattern is written in US crochet terms.
  • The sizes are an approximation. They will not be exact. Sizing will vary depending on how tightly or loosely you crochet. Gauge is not necessary for this pattern but if you would like to keep the sizing the same, please check your gauge before starting this project.

Photo Tutorial:

With Color A, Ch 27

Row 1:  1 sc into the third ch from hook,

Row 1 cont’d: 1 sc into each remaining st across, turn.

 Row 2: Ch 1 (count as a sc)

Row 2 cont’d: Sk the first sc, 1 sc into the FL of each st across, changing to Color B in the last yarn over of the last st, turn.

Row 3: Ch 2 (count as a hdc)

 Row 3 cont’d: Sk the first st, work 1 hdc into each st across, fasten off Color B but do not turn work.

Row 4: Join Color A with a sl st into the first st of Row 3, ch 1 (count as a sc)

Row 4 cont’d: Work 1 tr in the FL of the next 2 sc sts from Row 2 (you will be working over the hdc sts from Row 3)

Row 4 cont’d: 1 sc into the BL of each of the next 3 hdc

Row 4 cont’d: *1 tr into the FL of the next 3 sc sts from two rows below, 1 sc into the BL of the next 3 hdc**

Row 4 cont’d: Repeat from * to ** until there are 3 sts remaining

Row 4 cont’d: 1 tr into the FL of the next 2 sc sts from 2 rows below, 1 sc into the last sc, fasten off Color A

Row 5: Join Color B into the beginning st of Row 4 with a sl st, ch 2 (count as hdc)

Row 5 cont’d: sk the first st, 1 hdc into each st across, fasten off Color B

Row 6: Join Color A with a sl st into the first st of the previous row, ch 1 (count as first sc)

Row 6 cont’d: 1 sc in the BL of the next 2 hdc sts

Row 6 cont’d: *1 tr in the FL of the next 3 sc sts from 2 rows below

Row 6 cont’d: 1 sc in the BL of the next 3 hdc sts**

Row 6 cont’d: Repeat from * to ** across, fasten off Color A

Row 7: Repeat Row 3
Row 8: Repeat Row 4
Row 9: Repeat Row 5
Row 10: Repeat Row 6
Row 11: Repeat Row 3

Edging: Work a sc border evenly around the entire dishcloth working 3 sts in each corner, fasten off, weave ends.

Written Instructions:

With Color A, Ch 27

Row 5: Join Color B into the beginning st of Row 4 with a sl st, ch 2 (count as hdc), sk the first st, 1 hdc into each st across, fasten off Color B. (26)
Row 6: Join Color A with a sl st into the first st of the previous row, ch 1 (count as first sc), 1 sc in the BL of the next 2 hdc sts, *1 tr in the FL of the next 3 sc sts from 2 rows below, 1 sc in the BL of the next 3 hdc sts** Repeat from * to ** across, fasten off Color A. (26)

Finish (optional):

You can add a simple border by joining your yarn with a sl st in one of the stitches, sc evenly around placing 3 sc sts in each corner, join in beginning sc with an invisible join. Fasten off, weave ends.
