Jar Full of Love – Mason Jar Cozy

Last week, I posted my Cup Full of Love Coffee Cozy pattern and I almost immediately received requests for a jar cozy. So, I whipped up this adorable Jar Full of Love Mason Jar Cozy to match my cute coffee cozy! This pattern is for a small (16 oz) mason jar (it’s all that I have handy) but as soon as I get my hands on some other sizes, I will update the pattern to include the larger ones as well. Materials:

• Category 4 Medium Weight Yarn in three colors:
  • Color A – I used Lily Sugar ‘n Cream* in Robin’s Egg Blue
  • Color B – I used Lily Sugar ‘n Cream* in White
  • Color C – I used Lily Sugar ‘n Cream* in Hot Pink
• Size H 5 mm Crochet Hook*
• Yarn Needle* for weaving ends
• Scissors*

Abbreviations:

ch – chain
dc – double crochet
dc-CL – double crochet cluster
hdc – half double crochet
sc – single crochet
sc dec – single crochet decrease
sk – skip
sl st – slip stitch
sp – space
() – indicates stitch counts
[] – work instructions as many times as directed
* – indicates instructions to be repeated

Special Stitches:

DC Cluster (dc-CL):

• Yarn over, insert hook into indicated st
• Yarn over, pull up a loop, yarn over pull through 2 loops (2 loops on hook)
• Yarn over, insert hook into same st, yarn over, pull up a loop
• Yarn over pull through 2 loops (3 loops on hook)
• Yarn over, pull through all 3 loops on hook

Gauge:

3 stitches and 3 rows = 1 inch

Instructions:

With color A,
Magic Circle, ch 1
Round 1: 12 sc into the magic circle, join into the beginning sc. (12 sts)
Round 2: Ch 1, 2 hdc into each st around, join into the beginning hdc. (24 sts)
Round 3: Ch 1, *1 hdc into next st, 2 hdc into next st; Repeat from * around, join into the beginning hdc. (36 sts)
Round 4-5: Ch 1, 1 hdc into each st around, join into the beginning hdc. (36 sts)
Change to Color B
Round 6-7: Ch 1, 1 hdc into each st around, join into the beginning hdc. (36 sts)
Change to Color A
Round 8: Ch 1, 1 hdc into each st around, join into the beginning hdc. (36 sts)
Change to Color C
Round 9: Ch 3, [1 dc, ch 1, 1 dc-CL] into the first st, *ch 3, sk the next 3 sts, [1 dc-CL, ch 1, 1 dc-CL] into the next st; Repeat from * until there are 3 sts remaining, ch 3, join into the top of the beginning ch 3. (9 “heart” clusters)
Change to Color A
Round 10: Ch 1, *1 sc into the ch-1 sp between the dc clusters, 1 dc into each of the next 3 skipped sts from Round 9; Repeat from * around, join into the beginning sc. (36 sts)
Change to Color B
Round 11: Ch 1, 1 sc into each st around, join into the beginning sc. (36 sts)
Change to Color C
Round 12: Repeat Round 9
Change to Color B
Round 13: Repeat Round 10
Change to Color A
Round 14: Ch 1, 1 sc into each st around, join into the beginning sc. (36 sts)
Round 15: Ch 1, [1 sc dec over the next 2 sts] twice, 1 sc into each of the next 28 sts, [1 sc dec over the next 2 sts] twice, join into the beginning sc. Fasten off, weave ends.
