Crochet Turkey Hat – Free Pattern

Crochet Turkey Hat - Free Pattern www.thestitchinmommy.com

I’ve been getting requests for this pattern ever since I started selling the finished item in my Etsy shop a few years ago. I have finally decided to sit down and write it all down and put it up for sale. My testers are testing all of the other sizes right now but the completed pattern will be up for sale soon. UPDATE: The other pattern sizes can be found here, for sale on Ravelry. In the meantime, I hope you enjoy this “sneak peek” of the pattern in size 0-3 months! Happy Crocheting!

Finish:

  • Sew buttons onto the eyes with needle and thread or yarn. Position the eyes onto the hat and sew using the long tails (I like to pin them in place using sewing pins to keep them from moving while I attach them.)
  • Once the eyes are in place, sew the wattle onto the hat. Then position the beak and sew that over the wattle.
  • Position and attach each of the feathers onto the back of the hat making sure they are visible from the front, when the hat is being worn.
  • Sew the feathers on using the long tails and a tapestry or yarn needle (Use pins to hold them in place if necessary.)
  • For the tuft, cut 8 strands of yarn that measure approximately 6”. Fold in half and pull the strands through the center of the hat. Tie a knot to secure and trim if necessary.
  • For the braids, cut 9 strands of yarn for each side of the hat (18 strands in total) measuring approximately 24”. You can make them longer or shorter depending on how long you would like your braids. Fold the strands in half and pull half of the strands through the earflap. Make a knot to secure the braids to the earflap. Braid the strands. When you’ve reached the desired length of your braids, knot the bottom and trim the ends so that they are even. Repeat for the other side.
