Crochet Striped Dishcloths

Crochet Striped Dishcloths - www.thestitchinmommy.com
A few weeks ago my mom asked me to make her some custom dishcloths to go with the decor in her kitchen. She loves fruit and has A LOT of bright colored fruit-themed items in her kitchen. Instead of making her fruit shaped dishcloths, I decided to make her dishcloths that were more practical but still had pops of color. I came up with this quick, easy, and gorgeous striped dishcloth pattern. I really like it because it has a tight stitch and a nice texture. I hope you enjoy the pattern! Happy Crocheting!

Materials:

  • 2 skeins of white cotton yarn (Makes 4 dishcloths). I used Lily Sugar n’ Cream in white(affiliate link)
  • 4 yards of cotton yarn in each of your accent colors. I used Lily Sugar n’ Cream in Red, Hot Pink, Hot Blue, Robin’s Egg Blue, Yellow and Hot Green(affiliate links). I also used Lion Brand Kitchen cotton in Snap Pea and Pumpkin (affiliate links)
  • Size H Crochet Hook
  • Scissor
  • Tapestry Needle for weaving ends

Abbreviations:

ch – chain
hdc – half double crochet
sc – single crochet
BL – back loop
sl st – slip stitch

Notes:

  • Most of this pattern in worked into the back loop (BLO) of each stitch and it will be noted when and where to work through both loops.
  • For this pattern, you will have to know how to slip stitch on the surface of your work.
  • Finished dish cloth measures approximately 9″ x 7″

Instructions:

Ch 32
Row 1: hdc in 3rd ch from hook and in each st across. Ch 2, turn. (30)
Row 2: hdc in each st across. Ch 2, turn. (30)
Row 3-18: hdc in the BL of each st across. Ch 2, turn. (30)
Row 19: hdc, through both loops, in each stitch across. Ch 2, turn. (30)
Row 20: hdc, through both loops, in each stitch across. Fasten off and weave ends. (30)

You will now notice that your dish cloth has ridges created by crocheting through the back loop only. This is where you will add your color accents. Join your accent color into the ch 2 st of row 4 with a sl st.

Insert your hook between the next two hdc posts.

Pull your accent yarn through the space between the hdc posts and through the loop on your hook.

Repeat this process until you have slip stitched between all of the posts. Sl st at the end of the row and fasten off.

Continue joining your accent colors into the ridges created by the BL hdc’s. I alternated two different colors but you can customize it to whatever color scheme you would like to use.

Once you’ve created all of your stripes, (you should have 8 stripes in total) sc evenly around the entire dishcloth, making sure to place 3 sc’s in each corner. Fasten off and weave all ends.
